Today mobile hardware like smartphones and tablets gets most of the attention in this second, much larger change in the web, but the explosion in the size ranges and sheer diversity of mobile hardware and screens just presages an even bigger change now just beginning. It’s the burst of new hardware and usage situations for web-based content that has created the biggest paradigm change in the way we think about web-based delivery of information. As interesting as they have been, the new markup languages reflect the steady evolution and growing maturity of the craft and tools of web publishing. These changes to page markup finally reflected the real-world interests and behavior of web professionals, incorporating widespread coding practices into official W3C standards and making the web a much more friendly and capable place for web-based applications and complex interactivity.
